16 Malay Street

In December 1910 Sun Yat Sen's revolutionary supporters, including Ng Kim Kheng (Huang Jinqing), Tan Sin Cheng (Chen Xinzheng), Khoo Beng Cheang (Qiu Mingchang), Yang Hanxiang, Lin Yibo and Zeng Shoulan, founded the newspaper Kwong Wah Yit Poh as the revolutionary organ of the Tongmenghui (China Revolutionary Alliance).

The Chinese newspaper was initially published from 120 Armenian Street before it moved to our premises in 1913.

In 1918, it expanded to the adjacent building of 18 Malay Street, which was previously occupied by Chung Ling School.

The Kwong Wah Yit Poh Press moved to Chulia Street Ghaut in 1936.

18 Malay Street

Chung Ling School was jointly founded here in July 1917 by Tan Sin Cheng (Chen Xinzheng), Khoo Beng Cheang (Qiu Mingchang), Chu Yeo Aik (Xu Yangyi), Khaw Seng Lee (Xu Shengli) and Lim Joo Teik (Lin Rude).

In the following year, after Chung Ling School moved to 65 Macalister Road, the Kwong Wah Yit Poh Press which was occupying the adjacent building on 16 Malay Street expanded to these premises.
